2016 was Rihanna’s year and apparently, Forbes agrees.
In its recently published, “The 30 Highest-Paid Celebrities Under 30 In 2016” list, Rihanna ranked #5 overall and is the only black woman that placed. Rihanna earned a whopping $75 million dollars this year in total.
Indeed, few celebrities have had as great of a year as Rihanna. At the top of 2016, the 28-year old released her eighth-studio album, Anti, and with it came much acclaim. The album debuted at #1 its first-full week of sales despite competition from Rapper Kevin Gates and writer Sia. Additionally, her lead-single “Work” reigned on top of the Billboard Hot 100 for nine full weeks. The singer also released a major collaboration with Calvin Harris (“This Is What You Came For”) which currently has over 1.1 billion views on YouTube and even scored the amazing gig of performing the theme song for the hit movie Star Trek Beyond.
Of course, Rihanna managed to make major moves that had nothing to do with her musical talents this year as well. In 2016, Rihanna took over New York Fashion Week with her Fenty x Puma collection, subsequently launching a very successful pop-up shop for it. Speaking of Puma, Rihanna’s “Creeper” shoe won Shoe of the Year from Footwear News, making her the first woman ever to accomplish the feat(no pun intended). Finally, Rihanna became the first black face of Dior this year and became a major attraction on her own at their show during Paris Fashion Week.
As 2016 wraps, Rihanna has been busy filming for the new movie in the Oceans . . . franchise, preparing to film for her stint on the hit series Bates Motel, awaiting the release of her upcoming sci-fi movie Valerian, and hopping in and out of music studios. If 2016 is any indication of how Rihanna’s 2017 will go, then another great year is in store for the superstar.
