"Anybody in this room who’s dealing with the homosexual spirit, beg God . . . to free you.”
As the last few hours of 2016 ring in, the crazy year is bringing in even more tumultuous controversy.
This time, the seemingly unlikely source of Twitter backlash is gospel star Kim Burrell. A video of Burrell, 44, ranting against homosexuality and “sin” went viral in the early hours of the last day of 2016.
In the video, the former judge of BET’s Sunday’s Best, can be seen in front of a congregation preaching about her ideals on the gay community.
In the over 3 minute rant, Burrell spews such phrases as, “That perverted homosexual spirit is a spirit of delusion and confusion.”
Kim also becomes quite vulgar as she speaks about how men performing fellatio on other men is perverted in her eyes. She shouts, “You as a man open your mouth and [are taking] another man’s penis in your face . . . you are perverted!” Aren’t we in church?
Additionally, as she speaks, Burrell prophesizes the death of all gay people as she states, “You play with it in 2017, you’ll die from it.”
The lewdness and crudeness of Burrell’s words are alarming and somewhat hypocritical. In the past year, Burrell has appeared on the openly sexually-fluid Frank Ocean’s album with the song "Godspeed." The fact has led some to question Burrell’s own moral compass, as profiting from the gay community to then bash it, is quite bizarre.
In the early hours of the morning, Burrell has released another video in which she states, “I am not to be shaken ‘cuz I’m out here for God.”
The video comes at an awkward time as Burrell has a scheduled appearance on the openly Lesbian Ellen DeGeneres’s talk show Ellen, scheduled for January 5th to perform a song from the Hidden Figures soundtrack with Pharrell.
So is being gay only bad to Burrell when she cannot profit from it?
