Another life taken too soon…
Bishop Eddie Long, senior pastor of one of the largest megachurches in the US, has reportedly passed away from cancer according to statements released by the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church and wife Vanessa Long on Sunday.
Details of the statements reflected on the legacy of leadership Long left behind as well as prompted a call to action for loved ones to celebrate his life and peace he would receive following his death.
"Bishop Long was known as one of the most influential faith leaders in the world. He stood strong as a Kingdom Builder, pioneering leader, and revolutionary mind changer,” the church said in a statement.
“Although his transition leaves a void for those of us who loved him dearly, we can celebrate and be happy for him, knowing he's at peace," his wife Vanessa Long said in another statement.
Rumors of Eddie’s failing health circled the web a few weeks back after a picture surfaced of the pastor looking noticeably thinner while standing front and center to address his congregation.
Back in 2010, Long found himself at the center of headlines when former New Birth members Anthony Flagg, Spencer LeGrande, Jamal Parris and Maurice Robinson, sued the bishop for allegedly coercing them into sexual relationships.
Although the court case was eventually dismissed Eddie still found himself in the mist of tumultuous battles with his wife Vanessa filing for divorce in 2011. The couple later reconciled.
Condolences to his family, New Birth, and all affected by his passing.
