Earlier this month, make-up brand Maybelline announced that they are using Manny Gutierrez, their first male figurehead, in their campaigns. His millions of social media followers know Manny Gutierrez as MannyMUA. Maybelline introducing him as the first male figure head for their company is a revolutionary movement for the male community that indulges in make-up. But how accepted has this transition been?
Disapproving blogger, Matt Walsh, tweeted his thoughts on Gutierrez saying, “Dads, this is why you need to be there to raise your sons.” Gutierrez’s fans and, most importantly, his father came to his defense very quick, and boy did Gutierrez’s father have a clapback for the naysayers!
"Mr Walsh, this is Manny Sr,” the note began. "Let me first begin by telling you that I’ve always been there for my son and will ALWAYS be there for him. Not only am I proud of what he has accomplished but I’m more proud of the person he has become. I know the words you speak are from lack of knowing anybody from the LGBT community. If you did, you would soon realize they are some of the most real and kindhearted individuals that walk this planet of ours. Going forward, I would choose your actions and words wisely. Just like you would do anything for your family, I would DO for mine. Good day Sir."
Walsh stood his ground and said, “I think the increasing feminization of men is a symptom of a decaying culture. I think it’s another consequence of the nuclear family.” Certainly everyone is entitled to his or her opinion, but some just don’t need to be shared with others.
