Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' Keeps Outshining : Highest Certified Album in U.S. History

“Just beat it, beat it, beat it, beat it. No one wants to be defeated.” These lyrics from the late King of Pop still describe the everlasting power of his music. According to Billboard, The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the Thriller album at 33-times platinum in the U.S, which makes it the highest certified album in history.

This means that the album received 33 million equivalent album units in the U.S. It’s crazy how this album still continues to be a success. The songs on this superior album are:

  1.   “Wanna Be Startin’ Something”
  2.   “Baby Be Mine”
  3.   “The Girl Is Mine”
  4.   “Thriller”
  5.   “Beat It”
  6.   “Billie Jean”
  7.   “Human Nature”
  8.  “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)
  9.  “The Lady in my Life”

Here is the music video for “Beat It”:

After its release in 1982, the Thriller album broke many chart records. It became the first album to generate seven top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In addition, it stayed No.1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart for 37 nonconsecutive weeks.

A plaque for this major achievement was presented at the house of the Epic Records chairman aka Antonio “L.A.”Reid. Let’s see if this great album continues to break more records.

Rest in peace Michael Jackson.
