Couple Sentenced to 35 Years in Prison after Parading Confederate Flags at an African American Child’s Birthday Party

If ya’ll didn’t learn in the 1800s, 1950s, or even right here in the 2000s, you gone learn today…

A Georgia couple has been sentenced to prison, collectively serving a 35 year sentence, after being charged for terrorizing a black child’s birthday party with Confederate Flags, racial slurs and threats.

26-year-old Jose Ismael Torres and 25-year-old Kayla Rae Norton, who is the mother of Torres’ children, were convicted earlier this month under a street gang terrorism law and were spotted boo-hooing in a courtroom for the 2015 harassment in a small town just outside of Atlanta.

Video footage from the party, which took place a little more than a month after the horrific and racially motivated Dylan Roof church massacre, shows a parade of trucks encroaching on the birthday gathering flying confederate flags.

Intruders were heard shouting the word n----r while some witnesses say one member of the group had a gun and yelled that “he was gonna kill the n----rs .”

Torres was sentenced to 20 years with 13 of them in prison, for aggravated assault, terroristic threats and terrorism while Norton was sentenced to 15, serving six, for terroristic threats and street gang terrorism.

Prosecutors made it clear that the cases against Torres, Norton and other unnamed defendants involved had nothing to do with their right to fly a Confederate flag, but on threats against the victims.

"This is behavior that even supporters of the Confederate battle flag can agree is criminal and shouldn’t be allowed," Douglas County District Attorney Brian Fortner said in a statement.

Others who were less involved pleaded guilty and were put into a diversion program.
