There’s another designer added to the list of those that will not dress the Trumps, and his reasons are very specific.
According to The Hill, designer Zac Posen has dressed the Melania and Ivanka Trump in the past, but his change of heart is due to the morals and policies of Trump. “Right now, I’m staying away from bringing my brand into politics. There are issues that are being questioned that are fundamentally upsetting to me – deeply: LGBT rights, immigration, funding for the arts, Planned Parenthood, and women’s rights. These are just issues that are very close to my heart, and I use my own private voice and funds to fight for them and in support of them," says Zac.
Many designers have refused to dress the Trumps including Tom Ford, Phillip Lim, and Marc Jacobs. Donald Trump has already come for Mr. Ford for not dressing Melania. Tom Ford feels that a first lady must relate to everybody, and he felt Melania does not do a good job of relating to the American public. Trump responded by saying, “He was never asked. I never liked him or his designs.”
Tommy Hilfiger and Diane Von Furstenberg are all for dressing her. Diane says, “Melania deserves the respect of any first lady before her.”
Though every designer does have the right to dress who they choose, they must be careful about how it will effect their brand. Zac Posen says, “I think it’s important to use your voice. I think that every brand and person has a right to be vocal.”
