Woman Suffers Burns to Her Face and Hands after Her Headphones Explode While Listening to Music

Samsung Galaxy Note 7, is that you?

A woman has suffered burns to her face and ears after her headphones exploded while she was listening to music on a flight from Beijing to Melbourne.

According to BuzzFeed, the unidentified woman was listening to music using battery-powered headphones when about 2 hours into the flight, she heard a loud explosion.

In a statement released by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB), the woman recounted what happened saying:

“As I went to turn around I felt burning on my face. I just grabbed my face which caused the headphones to go around my neck. I continued to feel burning so I grabbed them off and threw them on the floor. They were sparking and had small amounts of fire. As I went to stamp my foot on them the flight attendants were already there with a bucket of water to pour on them. They put them into the bucket at the rear of the plane.”

The ATSB believes the headphone batteries, which were melted and stuck to the floor of the plane, are what caused the fire.

When describing her experience for the rest of the flight, the woman stated the cabin reeked of burnt electronics and melted plastic, and that “people were coughing and choking the entire way home.”

I’ll take that any day over a plane crash or worse, death!  All I gotta say is…release the brand of the headphones.
