Kendrick Lamar recently did an interview for the New York Times’ T Magazine. He said that he is working on a new album. Lamar refers to this upcoming project as “very urgent.”
The inspiration behind this album is:
“This is what goes on in my mind as a writer. One day, I may have a little girl. And it’s a girl in particular — funny you said that. She’s gonna grow up. She’s gonna be a child I adore, I’m gonna always love her, but she’s gonna reach that one point where she’s gonna start experiencing things. And she’s gonna say things or do things that you may not condone, but it’s the reality of it and you know she was always gonna get to that place. And it’s disturbing. But you have to accept it. You have to accept it and you have to have your own solutions to figure out how to handle the action and take action for it” (New York Times).
His music is known for sharing important messages. Lamar uses his talent to inspire others. His album, To Pimp a Butterfly, is a perfect example. According to the New York Times, the Black Lives Matter Movement uses his song “Alright” as their anthem. This album was both powerful and successful. It went platinum and received four Grammys.
It will be nice to get an album from him, since he has only been featured in songs lately. He teamed up with Maroon 5 for their hit single: “Don’t Wanna Know.” He also teamed up with Kanye West for “No More Parties in LA,” etc.
There has not been a release date announced yet, but the wait will be worth it.
